UGC wants new academic year from August may it differ from 2019-20. The new Exam dates for UGC going to be released soon said HRD minister.

University Grants Commission (UGC) has come out with tentative timetable for all universities and other institutions for the new academic year 2020-21.

The UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) 2020 examination which was scheduled to be held from June 15th to June 20th was postponed due to the nationalwide lockdown imposed to fight the Covid-19 spread. The NET is also known as UGC NET or CBSE NET, is a national wide test for any candidate to determine Eligibility for any College or any University level lectureship.

UGC has suggested to start the new academic year from august 2 2020 for the second, third and fourth year courses. However commencing new year programs from September 1 2020.

Final semester examinations can then be held in July and may be shortened from 3 hours to 2 hour duration. Intermediate semester students can be graded based on internal assessment of the present and previous semester, UGC suggested. Going forward, in this pandemic situation of Covid-19 the Commission encouraged Colleges and Universities to equip their faculty with online teaching tools, develop virtual classrooms and virtual laboratory facilities so that student learning could not stop. About 25% of their syllabus can be completed through online teaching in this lockdown and 75% through face-to-face, when classes will get resumed again said the UGC as heard from officials.
